The emphasis on continual innovation and learning in Reflect has led to the production of many different types of resources.
Practical resources:
- Communication and Power is a resource pack developed with practitioners worldwide, covering a wide variety of issues, methods and rpactical examples of Reflect in Action.
- Education Action is a magazine which is published bi-annually. Its primary aim is to enable Reflect practitioners to share their experiences and its articles are written by Reflect practitioners from around the world. Information from past editions of Education Action is available on this website, however, if you would like to subscribe to Education Action, please email the current editor.
- In February 2001 ActionAid held a workshop using participatory methodologies to look at power within the organisation - the report from this workshop, 'Transforming Power', highlights both the methods and the outcomes of this organisational self-analysis.
Evaluations of Reflect
- Participation and Empowerment: insights for evaluation is a short briefing based on findings of a detailed study of Reflect projects in Uganda and Bangaldesh published by DfID in 2003. The original study explores in depth how participation and empowerment translate from theory into practice. The briefing focuses on the insights into the complexity of evaluating projects with soft or intangible outcomes such as empowerment, with the aim of provoking debate in this imoprtant area.
- Reflect, rights and governance: insights from Nigeria and South Africa was published in 2004 and documents experiences of using Reflect to focus on issues of rights and governance. The work in Nigeria is supported by ActionAid Nigeria, and a project in South Africa implemented by IDASA.
- During 1999-2000 a large amount of research was carried out, focusing on evaluating Reflect. These evaluations have taken various forms.
- There were 13 national level evaluations on Reflect which have been summarised by Abby Riddell.
- Further, responses to a Global Survey, sent to all Reflect contacts have been compiled and analysed.
- These more quantative evaluations were complemented by 'Creative Reviews' which took place in 8 different contexts.
- Lines in the Dust is a video, showing Reflect in action, which was produced in 2001..
- Following a workshop in 1998 it was decided that new materials were needed to reflect the diversity of Reflect practice and to inspire continuing innovation. The discussions at this workshop were written up in a special edition of PLA notes.
Historical context of Reflect:
The Action Research Report, published in 1996, evaluates the experiences of the three Reflect Pilot Projects.
The Reflect Mother Manual draws on these experiences and contains concrete ideas about how to use Reflect.
